The main goldfields are situated between Alice Springs and Tennant Creek (Southern Region) and between Katherine and Darwin (Northern Region).  Good nuggets have been found on most fields in these areas.  Largest nugget on record was 500ozs. Largest specimen 700ozs. Both found in 1880 at the Margaret Diggings (North). (Privately owned !) Best finds with metal detectors in recent years, include an 88 oz specimen and a sixteen kilo patch. Visiting prospectors should get a fossicking permit or miners right from the Mines Dept.

I have numerous claims that I allow prospectors to detect.  You can keep all of the gold as long as you stick to my simple rules.

If you need specific info on the NT you can  E-mail me: Dave in Darwin
