NUGGETY GULLY N.S.W Took a 3 hour drive to Nuggety Gully today which is near Nowenoc, only to be denied permission from the land owner to enter the digging on his property. He had trouble with some people a couple of years ago and now no one is allowed on there. So thankyou to the idiots in question for stuffing it up for the rest of us.

| From: goldmine (Original Message) | Sent: 20/12/2001 2:05 PM | | Has anyone detected in the Braidwood regions, from Mongarlowe / half moon flat in the north, through Majors Creek and Araluen in the south? THE GULPH STREAM - NERRIGUNDA
The Gulph Creek at Nerrigundah is still producing reasonable gold for the recreational prospector. I've always got some gold on each visit. I worked over a bar at a spot and got some nice match head size nuggets and when I mentioned it to an old local prospector he said he'd cleaned that bar out years ago. So the stream is still renewing its gold during flood times.
To get to the Gulph head south from Moruya to Bodalla turn right to Eurobodalla follow the road to the Nerrigundah right turn over a bridge, then over the mountain to the very small township. Turn right at the statue follow the road to Comans Mine about one Klm after Comans mine turn off a track and find your way down to the creek and all the best.
Cheers, Ecckles on message board page

Hello people, I've just joined the club but I know you wont mind if my info leads to some of that elusive yellow stuff. In the summer2003 I spent five weeks with a sluice downriver (just past the S bends) of Wallaby Rocks on the Turon River. There are some large bars across the river which catch the gold. The bad news is that the overburden goes from 2 feet to as much as 5 feet. I dug a very large hole in the riverbed and averaged 3 to 5 grams a day. You might remember that we were in drought then and by 1 o'clock in the arvo it was like standing on a barbeque plate and I had to adjourn to the Sofals Hotel. A few things you need to look out for- bull ants, tiger leeches and black snakes. Also if using a sluice with a pump you are not allowed to set the sluice up in the river and someone in the area rings the Dept of Mines whenever they see someone doing this. This would be a great place for a dredge but of course they are illegal. I had some tourists come up and say that the hole I had dug was an "eyesore" on the landscape. If they had bothered to come back after it rained they would have seen that the river had repaired itself. I've found the whole of the Turon river from The Upper Turon down to the Macquarie river to be gold bearing but have not found any one area out of which you could make "wages". For those who like detecting I have seen some nice gold come out of Big Oakey Creek but be warned it has been thrashed. The best time to go is just after some heavy rain. There is still good gold there but as usual mixed with a lot of rocks and dirt. Happy hunting. grunta0

PEOPLE PLEASE REMEMBER TO FILL YOUR HOLES IN AFTER DIGGING, BECAUSE MOST OF THE NUISANCE/ INJURIES COME FROM PEOPLE FOSSICKING WHO DONT FILL THE HOLES.
