 Welcome to

Uterine Prolapse Research,  Information, Support & Education

The History and Philosophy of U.P.R.I.S.E.

This web site began in December 2000 by three women who have various experiences with pelvic organ prolapse. You can find their stories on the ‘Stories’ page. The intent of the site is implicit in the name: uterine prolapse, research, information, support, and education.  Carol, Lisa, & Catherine met on another web site in 1999,  and share the same philosophies regarding helping other women.

There is no corporate sponsorship of our site. We are simply a group of women who saw a need in our own lives, found some answers, were looking for more, and wanted to connect with other women with the same needs.

The information compiled on these pages is from a variety of sources; the opinions are our own. Access to the site is not limited in any way.

Our members come from all over the world through the magic of the internet. We now have over 1,000 people registered as UPRISE members. We range in age from early twenties to plus sixty. Most of us are mothers; a few grandmothers. You will find a wide variety of educational experiences represented, including medical professionals. All are welcome. Many have lingered for years even after their own situation was resolved to offer guidance to women new to the site. Some women are active on the message board and form many web friendships. On occasion we have even managed to meet one another. Other women read the site but never post a message. Each comes with her own agenda and we hope that everyone finds what they are looking for.

We strive to be compassionate and non-judgmental. We do not advocate any one solution to pelvic prolapse problems. We are strongly pro-education and informed choice. Some of the women who find us have experienced failed surgeries or other negative experiences and others want to share the secret to their ‘unique wisdom.'  We are honest and frank in our discussions, and the topics we share can be funny, sad, or even angry -- but we are always respectful.

Sharing personal experiences and educational resources are the backbone of this site. It is gratifying to see new women come to learn and then later offer their knowledge, support and experiences to other new women. We hope that women who find us will become empowered to find excellent urogynecological care and work with their doctors to determine the best choices for them.

Today, the UPRISE message board is joined by our newest moderator (and long-time UPRISE member), Donna, who shares our common vision.

Whatever stage you are at in your journey, we look forward to getting to know you. You are welcome here.
