What can I do if I need more help? 10. AtD Helpers 1. What is Discworld? The Discworld is a fictional place, created by the author Terry Pratchett. It is a flat world supported by four huge elephants, who in turn ride on the back of Great A'Tuin - the star turtle who swims through space to the Destination. There is a lot more to it than that obviously, but for further explaination I suggest you check out the Terry & Discworld page in the menu and then take a trip over to the L-Space Web, where you can find almost anything you want to know about the books, author, spinnoffs, etc. 2. What is Addicted to Discworld? Addicted to Discworld was created by me (The Lady, aka Tmara) when I couldn't find a good site online where I could meet other fans. (I have since found several good places, many of which are listed in the links section of this group). I found MSN Web Communities (now Groups) through Hotmail, and decided to check it out. Here I discovered how easy it was to start my own site dedicated to Terry and his books. I started slow of course, then I mentioned it in the Discworld Monthly newsletter and was suddenly innundated with members! I have been very lucky to have a constant stream of members since then, and quite a few regular posters who all help make this site the wonderful place it is. 3. What are all the headings in the left menu? I have been asked to give a list of descriptions for each of the menu headings: - What's New - a standard MSN Group page that shows new messages, members & photos, and also where you can access member tools.
- Welcome! - our homepage.
- Terry & Discworld - Some basic information on our favourite author and the series we love so much.
- The Series 1-15 - The blurbs and cover designs (both UK & US) for the first 15 book in the Discworld series.
- The Series 16-28 - Same as Series 1-15 but for the rest of the series (obviously).
- Other Books - Information on other books, maps, diaries, etc. in the Discworld canon, in addition to the many non-Discworld works Terry has graced us with.

4. I have joined - now what? Great to have you here! I would firstly recommend reading through a few of the discussions on the boards before you do anything - just to get a feel of the place. Then may I suggest posting a 'hello from the newbie' type message in the General message board (under Fourecks Forum). You can let everyone know you are here, tell us all a bit about yourself (if you want to) and ask questions if you need help. We are generally a friendly bunch and will (probably) welcome you with open arms and a gentle nudge in the direction of the Guild of Guilds! *grin* Oh, and an entry into the Mini Profile List would be welcome too. 5. How do I post a message? When you get into the message boards you will see a whole list of discussions (or threads). There are a couple of ways to do this: - If you would like to start a completely new discussion you just have to click on the 'New Discussion' option at the top of the message board. (Be sure that you are in the right board for your topic, and it is a good idea to check to see if someone else has already started a similar discussion. If they have, it may be best to reply to theirs instead of creating what may just be a carbon copy.) A new window will open up, and this is where you type your message. Put a topic heading in the top blank area (try not to make it too long), then type your message in the large blank area. You can play around with the text options too if you like, as it is best to learn how to use them this way. Then just hit send!
- If you want to reply to someone else's message, the you will need to click 'Reply' in the top left corner of their message. Again, a window will open up for you to type your reply in, but this time you won't need to add a topic heading. Write your message then click send!
Please keep in mind that ours is a (G) Rated site, so mature/adult images and language are a big no-no and will be deleted immediately. 6. Are there any regular events/happenings here? Currently the only regular events in Addicted to Discworld are the weekly chat in Sator Square (about 7pm GMT Saturdays & 11am GMT Sundays) and the Guild Games (follow the heading on the left menu to get to the Guild of Guilds for the games). There are other quizzes & things happening on the boards constantly too. If there is anything else you would like to see happening, please feel free to make the suggestion on the General message board. The more things we have to do, the more fun the site will be! 7. Can I have an Iconograph album too? Of course you can! In fact, we encourage it. Getting your own album space is easy, and the instructions can be found on the Iconograph intro page. But please remember that this community is (G) Rated, so do not use any mature images (or language) anywhere on site. Thank you. 7a. Where did you get all the great artwork? Most of the artwork (including pictures, backgrounds and clipart) has been 'borrowed' from various other sites around the Internet. I have tried to ask permission where I could, but if you see something here I should not have, please let me know so I can give credit or remove as required. Some Discworld pictures have been created by Paul Kidby, and I have linked each of these to his website @ http://www.paulkidby.com A selection of our artwork is created by our own talented members, and I thank them very much for their hard work (especially the Bursar). As a result, please Email Me before you take anything off our site. Thank you. 9. What can I do if I need more help? There are several options: - Click 'Help' at the top of the screen (next to 'My Groups')
- Post a question on the General message board
- Email one of the managers or members listed at the end of this faaaq (most of them are also listed on the Messenger IDs list in the left menu - feel free to add them to your instant messenger as buddies)
- If it is an MSN related problem, may I suggest a visit to Community Feedback.
I hope we can help you with anything you need. 10. AtD Helpers: Last updated: 30 June 2003 |
